Mommy Blogger India ( Parenting, FoodArt, Lifestyle Blogger) Interview TheMagicPlatter

Hi, I am Sonam Jain, mom of a 2-year-old and a part-time Mommy blogger and recently a mompreneur too.

Sonam Jain from Magic Platter a Mommy Blogger

I started blogging when about 11/2 years ago where I kind of felt lonely since I had quit work to experience motherhood.

At that point I decided to share my love for foodart with all.

So this blog began as a motto to help mothers of fussy eaters by foodart and later on I added recipes and musings to just pen down my journey and assist moms like me.

So my blog niche is actually parenting with 80% content, displaying foodart and 20% content focusing on parent lifestyle.

How did you decide on what to name your blog?

The name The Magic Platter came by chance.

My hubby just told me my work is magic for mammas out there and at the end kids will start eating, isn’t it?

So bcoz its about creating a platter especially for kids we kept the name The Magic Platter.

Do Mommy Bloggers Make Money?

How do you find Blog Topics to write about?

Is it random, keyword research involved?

The kind of work I do is like niche of a niche. There are not many people doing it nor it is has any formal education involved.

So it’s super difficult to find keywords etc. So I have decided to write topics I find relevant.

What does your day look like? When do you write?

I have a specific time table I like to follow. I assign content creating for one day of the week and writing a blog for another day of the week and promotion of the blog on another day.

What does your publishing schedule look like? You publish everyday?

The max I have written is 2 blogs a week.

How are you able to manage family, blog, work, friends?

I guess time management is the key to achieve a balance. Since I have a schedule in place things get easy for me.

Why did you decide on the categories you chose?

I just went with the flow, I really never knew what is blogging when I started so I never pre-decided on the categories.

Currently also if I feel the need to write on anything specific I just write irrespective of niche or category

This is how I grew my Blog from 0 visitors to 100+ visitors ( and growing) per day.

How do Promote your Blog?

How much time goes in promotion versus writing? Is there a schedule?

I promote my blog in every possible platform I am aware of. Be it a social platform like Facebook, Instagram and blogging platforms like indiblogger.

I try to reach everywhere. And one of the reasons I focus on promotion since my niche has low keywords. I personally feel it takes an equal amount of time and energy to create content, blog and promote.

Promotion should never be neglected.

Is this a business or just a blog? When did this become a business if it is a business?

It’s just a blog for me. Definitely not a business for now. Although I have plans to come up with a business model on the lines of foodart never done before.

How do you make money?

I make some amount of money through sponsored posts, but I am not too consistent with it.

Whenever I am approached by the client I take up the job. So far I have not been pitching brands to collaborate.

As far as the remuneration is concerned it depends a lot upon the deliverables asked by the brand and my blog and social media reach.

Does the Money cover your Expenses?

The money through blogging covers my basic expenses like domain and hosting packages etc. It is more of like pocket money for me, an additional top-up I get to spend on myself

So far I have not taken any external support to design my website or taking any technical help. I ask my fellow bloggers if at all I am stuck or youtube videos help me a lot.

How many years does it take to make money?

Do you need a particular number of visits to make money?

I started earning by the end of the 1st year. Personally, for me, my blog reach never mattered to the clients.

So its quite a contradict to what people say. I guess its just your honesty that matters and if you are an open book numbers won’t stop you.

Are Instagram and other Social Media are helping your blog?

Facebook and Pinterest have helped me a lot to grow. Surprisingly Instagram has not the way I expected. It’s more about images and not your blog content out there.

How do you get the products you review? Do you pay for them?

No, I have never paid for any product review. I contact brands through Instagram as they can view my page there and hence it becomes easy to take talks ahead.

Any thoughts for someone turning to you for advice on whether they should take the plunge?

I am too naive for someone to take advice. But I will say blogging is full-time work, if your attitude is time pass then it does not work.
