What does a Blogger do?

A blogger usually voices thoughts via an online platform. A blog is basically an online journal or an online diary.

What do you write about?

You could potentially blog on any topic from cooking, knitting, jewellery design, crafts for kids, pet care. Most bloggers start out to voice their opinions and showcase their creativity via an online platform.

Initially, almost all bloggers start writing on multiple topics which interest them. Over time some topics lose their steam and they start focusing on one or two main topics which speak to their heart.

Then they start focusing on ONE Topic which works best for them.

Over time you realize there is more to blogging than posting random thoughts online.

Once you start writing consistently and sharing your posts on social media people start finding your articles.

Now you suddenly realise you have a voice. People are noticing you. This recognition can be very motivating and can get you through those bad days when you just don’t want to Blog.

The one skill needed to be a Blogger

When I first started blogging I wanted to understand that one secret to making it into the Blogger league. Most say it is the passion, some say it is picking the right topic.

I have done it all.

I picked a topic which I was passionate about and blogged about it like hell. Sadly though I made money off that niche it was nothing to brag about.

I also picked the so called hot niches and broke into them. While they seemed to work for all other bloggers, it never worked for me. I never made money in those so-called top of the chart topics.

This is what I have learned:

You should pick a niche you are okay to work with. This could be a niche which you really like or something you are interested in.

You also need to look out for other factors which are mentioned in Picking a Topic.

The most important factor for a successful blog is to be Consistent. This is something which sounds easy but is very difficult to do.

Life gets in the way, you lose interest, there are no results and you question whether it is working for you.

The only way to make blogging work is to be consistent. You need to force yourself to work through the dark days. This is imperative if you are focusing on an authority site.

There is another type of site which doesn’t require such a daily focus or a commitment for a lifetime. I stumbled upon it later on in my life and we will be discussing this later on in this #startablog series.

As you start writing posts, slowly your blog starts getting visible. This is a long drawn out process and can take anywhere between 6 months to a year to get you visibility.

Not only do readers find your website, brands also start noticing you. This is great because it means you are ready to take your blog to the next level.

For some of my blogs no brand noticed me. I had to reach out to brands. For another new blog which I started within a month of its launch I started getting brand mails and requests for reviews.

What I am saying is that there is no set formula or set time for any thing in Blogging. If someone took 2 years to make it, you could become successful in just 1 year or even 6 months.
