Interview : Juhi Bansal from Closet Buddies ( Motherhood, Fashion Travel Blogger)

Closet Buddies is an extremely popular fashion, travel and motherhood blog with over 90k followers across social media which makes it the largest online community of its kind in Gujarat!

An MBA by education, I was a banker in my previous life. I am currently employed full time with Ahmedabad University as an Associate Director and working towards making education more fun, engaging and everyone’s cup of tea. (Quite like my endeavours with fashion!).

How did you decide on what to name your blog?

Every morning millions of girls like me wake up, look at their closet and exclaim, “I have nothing to wear!”

We are all buddies in that sense, hence Closet Buddies. Also, CB shares its initials with Carrie Bradshaw, one fashion icon we all look up to!

What are your Blog Categories?

Motherhood, Fashion, Parenting, Travel

Why did you choose these categories?

The blog has grown up with me from fashion to pregnancy to motherhood and parenting to travel.

How do find topics to write about? Is it random, keyword research involved?

I write about whatever is on my mind at that point of time. It’s more and more about motherhood or travel but I also talk about things that are bothering me sometimes like bullying or stereotyping etc.

What does your day look like? When do you write?

I wake up at 5.30 AM and workout with a trainer for an hour.

Since I have a full-time job at Ahmedabad University from 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM and a 5 year old daughter who has to be dropped to school it’s largely a busy day.

Evenings are spent reading and catching up with family. I mostly write and shoot on weekends.

What does your publishing schedule look like? Do you publish everyday?

No! I manage about 2-3 articles a month and 4-5 posts on Instagram

How are you able to manage family, blog, work, friends?

Well, I delegate the non-important stuff like cooking, washing etc.

Also, I prioritize my to-dos and more often than not coffees with friends is sacrificed in favour of reading or workout

How do promote your blog? How much time goes in promotion versus writing? Is there a schedule?

Since I have a full-time job, I spend a large part of my day in office and then working out or reading. I am the most unpredictable person when it comes to writing for the blog- I don’t have a schedule.

I write when I find time which is about 3-4 times a month.

How much does your Blog earn?

I earn 5 figures from Sponsored Posts and PR boxes with about 2 – 3 collaborations per month.

In your opinion how should we fix our rate chart

( for sponsored posts, Social Media Posts etc)

It’ s a simple game of cost-benefit.

How much is it costing you to create the content- not just the incidentals and actual costs also things like opportunity cost plus your time and effort?

Also, always keep in mind the benefits you are bringing to the sponsoring brand because that is what will ensure recurring business.

How many years does it take to make money?

Do you need a particular number of visits to make money?

not really. I think blogging has two aspects- content creation which is irrespective of the number of visits. You put the effort into creating content and should be rewarded for it. The other of course is your influence. Your costing should always be a good mix of both these factors.
